Tray Mathis is the owner and Executive Chef at the Converse Deli and Coffee Bar. Tray has worked in kitchens around the globe. In the past few years he has spent time as a fine dinning chef in the Carolinas. He decided to settle here in Spartanburg, opened his own restaurant Converse Deli " the people's deli".

Tray explains "We put our heart and soul into our menu, using fresh ingredients and local products to create an array of handcrafted foods. We use ingredients like Boar's Heads meats and cheeses, Palmetto Bakery Company that supplies our bread contains no preservatives, or bleached flour, Little River Roasting Company which is great locally roasted coffee, and we get all of our salts that are French sea salts that is an all natural product and is a healthy salt from the Grain of Salt Society in Ashville, N.C. We strive to bring a unique experience with love and passion for food. We try to support local growers and we have created a sustainable herb garden in the front of our restaurant."

Converse Deli is located in Converse Plaza next to Talbot's. The deli is open Monday thru Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday brunch is 11-3. They offer daily lunch specials and nightly bistro specials with a full eclectic menu. Please join them for lunch and dinner, now serving beer and wine. A full catering menu is also available for any event.
